🎮 You can now turn a text prompt into a textured, rigged and animated 3D game character on your own Mac. No cloud GPU required.

Meet AssetFurnace, an open-source production pipeline created by @bingeljell.

Instead of generating a static 3D model and leaving you to handle everything else, AssetFurnace connects the entire process.

Prompt → Image → 3D Mesh → Cleanup → Rig → Animation → GLB.

What can it do?

▪️ Concept generation: Create a character from a text prompt or import your own reference art.

▪️ Image-to-3D: Choose between Pixal3D, TRELLIS.2 and Hunyuan3D.

▪️ Mesh preparation: Clean geometry, adjust materials and choose the target polygon count.

▪️ Automatic rigging: Generate a humanoid skeleton with approximately 34–52 bones.

▪️ Animation: Apply walking, running, combat, dancing and other motion presets.

▪️ Engine-ready export: Produce a single GLB containing the mesh, textures, skeleton and animation.

The result can be opened in Godot, Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender or Three.js.

The technical details are surprisingly practical.

▪️ Selectable geometry budgets: 5K, 15K, 40K or 100K triangles.

▪️ 2K textures with color, normal and material information.

▪️ Multiple levels of detail for props.

▪️ Nine-prop generation from one 3×3 reference sheet.

▪️ Local generation on Apple Silicon and NVIDIA hardware.

▪️ An MCP server for Claude Code, Codex and other compatible agents.

There's also something particularly useful: license tracking.

Every generated asset includes provenance information identifying the models used during production and their licenses.

That's important because combining open models doesn't automatically make every resulting workflow unrestricted.

Performance and requirements:

The developer reports that a complete character can be created in roughly 15 minutes on an M-series MacBook, depending on configuration.

Recommended hardware:

▪️ Apple Silicon with 32GB unified memory.

▪️ NVIDIA GPU with 24GB VRAM in the tested Linux setup.

▪️ 8–20GB of downloads per 3D model backend.

What does it cost?

The local application is free and Apache-2.0 licensed.

An optional cloud service starts at approximately $0.20 per generation.

But there are limitations.

Current automatic rigging focuses on humanoid characters.

Fast movements can produce unnatural deformations, extreme poses may stretch the geometry, and the generated triangles aren't a substitute for clean quad topology.

Still, this is the kind of integration that makes AI 3D useful to actual game developers.

Generating a model is only the first step. Generating something that can move inside a game is much more valuable.
