When I first started learning Three.js, I never imagined we could achieve this level of visual quality directly in a browser.
Back then, I was writing shaders by hand, line by line, trying to push the limits of what was possible on the web.
Years later, VXLVERSE is still my long-running side project: a browser-based game maker where you can create your own 3D story game in about 10 minutes.
This year, I started building with AI, and the project moved forward more than it had in all the years before.
Here's what I've been working on:
• Procedural 3D worlds Environments and objects generated entirely through code. No pre-made 3D assets. Everything is built procedurally, directly in the browser.
• A realistic character creator A parametric, MakeHuman-based character system with custom skin, hair, and cloth shaders, bringing MetaHuman-inspired visuals to the browser.
• An in-game 3D editor Walk around your world and add characters, items, doors, and quests.
• AI-powered characters Characters that speak using AI-generated voices running locally on your device with WebGPU.
• Atmospheric storytelling Public-domain classical music to bring drama and tension to your stories.
The most exciting part isn't just what AI helped me build.
It's seeing how far web graphics have come since I first started learning Three.js.
I never thought I'd be able to create something like this in a browser.
Now, I'm building it.
