作者通过对比不同尝试结果,分析Claude Code在逆向工程中的效率变化。
porting doom is one job. porting a game with no source and no open source work behind it is a different job. levelsio says he gave up on this one six months ago and it came together in a day with claude code, so something changed between those two attempts.
my arithmetic: 100,000 lines of c across 57,000 functions is about 1.75 lines per function. that reads like a lot of tiny translated functions, not clever rewrites. the measurable work sits elsewhere.
where this pipeline would apply:
- binary-only software with no source and no open source project to lean on
- the 300x windows and direct3d calls rewritten to webgl 2, a countable list you can check off
- a network stack rebuilt over websockets so multiplayer runs in a browser
caveat: this is one person's self-reported account of a free shareware demo, not the full game. he says he has no idea how it did it, so nothing here is independently verified. the server filled up fast, so some readers could not get in to check.
