Sensor Tower: Half of ad impressions in casual games come from ad networks, while strategy titles focus on social platforms

Analytics company Sensor Tower studied how mobile game ad displays are distributed across platforms in the US.

This is detailed in the State of Game Advertising 2026 report, which focuses on game promotion from October 2025 to September 2026.

According to Sensor Tower, Gossip Harbor became the largest advertiser among the studied mobile games in the USA, with 51% of its ad displays occurring on AppLovin.

For other popular projects, the distribution is different:

  • Pokémon GO — 47% of displays are on AdMob;
  • MONOPOLY GO! — 31% of displays are on AdMob;
  • Kingshot — 62% of displays are on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram;
  • Whiteout Survival — 51% of displays are on the same three platforms;
  • RAID: Shadow Legends — 42% of displays are on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.

Sensor Tower notes that casual game developers prefer to place ads within other apps. Regarding mid-core products (such as strategy games), their creators, conversely, often use video ads on social networks to gain traffic.

Analysts also observed a substantial increase in the number of ad creatives. In the first quarter of 2025, the largest mobile advertisers in the USA launched an average of 135 new creatives per month, while in the first quarter of 2026, this number rose to 465, a 3.4-fold increase.

Moreover, 70–75% of the new creatives are video ads. Sensor Tower attributes the increase, in part, to the proliferation of AI tools, which simplify and reduce the cost of producing advertising materials.
