Google DeepMind just unveiled Genie 4, its most realistic and interactive world model yet. Here's what you need to know.
Google DeepMind announced Genie 4 on October 27, 2026. It's a world model for real-time interactive simulation. You explore a generated environment and see how the scene responds, sounds, and how the people in it move, react, and speak. Sundar Pichai and Google shared the news too.
It's built on Gemini Omni for lifelike detail across spaces and subjects. Other Gemini models provide the reasoning to keep scenes coherent and continuous. Physics covers aerodynamics, collisions, and people who move naturally.
You steer the world live with natural language. You can change the weather, move the camera, shape events and actions, or add new elements mid-simulation. Genie 4 also generates native audio matched to the world, from background sounds to characters who can hold a conversation. A tester with early access said a full interactive world came from a single starting prompt, an environment plus a character.
Google also paired Genie 4 with Gemini 4 Argon in DeepMind robotics research. The aim is to test a breadth of simulated scenarios before bringing them into the physical world. In one demo, Gemini 3.8 Flash watches the generated scene, breaks a task into steps, checks each step, and updates its plan as the scene changes.
Availability is limited. Genie 4 is rolling out as a research preview to trusted testers, so Google can gather feedback before a wider release. It's coming soon to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie, and to early access partners in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. DeepMind calls it an early experimental model. Scenes can stay coherent over short sessions, but visual details and objects can still slip.
Key numbers:
- Announced October 27, 2026
- Built on Gemini Omni
- Paired with Gemini 4 Argon for robotics research
- Launch demo video runs 2:27
Some people asked what the point is beyond walking around an imagined world. Others pointed to games and robot testing as the use cases.
Genie 4 is in trusted-tester research preview now, with Ultra subscribers next.
