“我们的引擎是秘密”——卡普空如何驾驭 Nintendo Switch 2
‘Our own engine is the secret’ – How Capcom mastered the Nintendo Switch 2
Hello! Welcome back to another week on The Game Business.
Do you remember our big Arc Raiders interview from last year with CEO Patrick Soderlund? It is still our most watched interview on YouTube. And tomorrow, 12 months on, he’s back (and he’s not alone). The extraction shooter has had quite the story already, and I felt it was another wonderful conversation. I’m writing it up now, so look forward to that.
And as for our Thursday news Show, here is my three-word tease: Piracy, Hardware, Classics.
But that’s not today. Today it’s another Here’s The Dring for our paying subscribers, and I am sharing with you a short(ish) interview I did with Capcom’s Monster Hunter team at Tokyo Game Show. We talked about various things, including the game’s upcoming Switch 2 launch and Capcom’s recent success on Nintendo’s new machine.
In addition to that, I have the usual wrap-up of the big industry stories from the past seven days.
Enjoy!
I frequently get asked just how well are third-party games performing on Nintendo Switch 2? And it’s never a simple answer.
Nintendo has been actively courting big third-party developers and publishers with the Switch 2. It was difficult to get most PlayStation or Xbox games running on its previous console, but Switch 2 is more capable of handling modern third-party games (albeit with some compromises).
For Nintendo, a stronger third-party slate reduces the pressure on its first-party line-up, which are taking longer to build than before. Meanwhile, for third-parties, Switch 2 potentially offers a new avenue for much-needed audience growth.
As a result, we’re seeing a rise in PlayStation and Xbox games coming to Nintendo this time around, including the latest games in the Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and James Bond franchises.
But is it working?
