Join the week-long online challenge and compete for Unity Choice Awards.
Unity has announced its 2026 official Game Jam, a "celebration of game development," inviting aspiring and seasoned developers to create their projects.
The online event will be held from November 5 to November 13. Developers will have a full seven days to create a game around a specific theme, which will be announced at the kickoff livestream, and a few extra days to submit the project via the itch.io platform. During the jam, developers are invited to join the Unity Discord.
The kickoff livestream will be hosted on Thursday, November 5, at 12 PM EST / 9:00 AM PST / 5:00 PM GMT / 17:00 UTC, and the results will be announced in a livestream on December 10.
Developers can work solo or in teams of up to five people. Teams can be formed before the jam starts, and team-finding channels will open on Discord ahead of the kickoff. Each submission should include a playable build, a short description, the controls, credits for all assets, and a list of team members.
The jam has two types of judging. The community rating is done by developers and is meant for fun and recognition. The prize winners are chosen by the Unity Judge Panel. Community members rate the submissions in five categories: Fun Factor, Art, Sound Design, Uniqueness/Creativity, and Narrative Design.
The Unity Judge Panel gives awards in two categories:
- Unity Choice Awards (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place): the three highest-scoring games overall.
- Best Student Game: the highest-scoring game made by a student or a team of students.
Last year, the jam's theme was "Timeless," and the event celebrated Unity's 20th anniversary. You can check out the challenge results on its page. First place went to UNI-VERSE: Journey Through The Ages by Neonage, second place to Projects by Carson Moon, and third place to Penelope goes to the Unity Museum by ComradeNC.
You can also see how developers built engaging games under tight constraints and deadlines at other jams. For example, liamflannery56 created a survival horror game titled Impermanence for the Brackeys game jam with the theme "Trust No One":
