This new retro fantasy RPG blends King’s Field-style first-person exploration with Dark Souls-inspired combat, more than 50 weapons, 100 enemies, hidden secrets, and an unusual flying sword.

Freshly Baked Games and Future Friends Games have officially launched Queen’s Domain, a first-person fantasy action RPG inspired by the earliest FromSoftware games.

Available now for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, Queen’s Domain sends players to the mysterious Isle of Neasied in search of their missing father. Unfortunately, the island is filled with monsters, concealed paths, powerful bosses, and an ancient Queen beginning to awaken.

The first-person perspective, chunky retro visuals, deliberate swordplay, and interconnected environments immediately evoke King’s Field and Shadow Tower. Its action-oriented combat incorporates more recognizable Soulslike elements, including stamina management, charge attacks, weapon-specific abilities, character leveling, and dangerous encounters where careless aggression can quickly prove fatal.

Queen’s Domain introduces some distinctive ideas of its own. Players wield the Legendary Holy Sword Endu, which doubles as a traversal tool capable of carrying its owner through the air. Upgrades gradually extend the sword’s flight distance, opening new paths across the island and turning vertical exploration into an important part of progression.

The full game contains more than 50 upgradable melee weapons, over 20 types of secondary throwing weapons, and upwards of 100 enemies, minibosses, and bosses. Players can improve their attributes using experience points and gain additional statistical bonuses by discovering and eating food.

Its labyrinthine world is designed as a single interconnected space filled with shortcuts and hidden areas rather than a sequence of isolated levels. Exploring thoroughly may reveal equipment, upgrades, and routes that make later encounters more manageable, preserving the sense of mystery that defined FromSoftware’s early dungeon crawlers.

Queen’s Domain was created by Freshly Baked Games, a two-person independent studio founded by developers Eric and Bradley. Development began in mid-2023, drawing upon the pair’s shared appreciation for FromSoftware, The Legend of Zelda, anime, and retro fantasy games.

Interest grew rapidly following the game’s reveal and playable demo. Queen’s Domain accumulated more than 300,000 Steam wishlists. Within its first few hours, Queen’s Domain surpassed 3,500 concurrent Steam players, with 118 user reviews averaging 'Very Positive ' so far. Those figures will naturally continue changing as more players begin its estimated 40-hour adventure.
